Since 1976, St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church has taken Tuesday shifts with Greater Brandon Meals on Wheels, a community program serving people who are unable to prepare their own meals.

Volunteers plan and cook the meals from scratch, then pack and deliver them to homebound residents. Co-chair Phala Pesano told the Osprey Observer that the team typically prepares meals for 77 to 78 seniors on Tuesdays.

For some recipients, the delivery is also one of the few chances to talk with someone during the day. Volunteers check in as they bring food along their routes.

The church’s work continues every week. A volunteer team starts in the morning, and meals are delivered around midday.
