The federal government and Alberta have pledged to build at least 1,460 affordable housing units across the province. The plan covers 21 projects and includes supportive and transitional housing.
Ottawa will provide up to $220 million through Build Canada Homes, while Alberta will contribute up to $165 million. The governments expect another $238 million from other sources.
At least 500 homes are targeted to use modern construction methods, including sections built off-site or in factories. A joint table will help the two governments choose priority projects and coordinate their investments.
Affordable homes can give people more stability close to jobs, schools, health care, and family. The partnership is an early step, but it sets a concrete target and puts money behind it.
